Exploding Skull is the solo guitar project of Peter Joseph of Brooklyn, New York, a guitarist and vocalist in the band OOF (whose most recent album, Mirror Mirror, was released by 20/20 Records in 2024) and former drummer of Pelviss and Rathaus. Exploding Skull’s improvised pieces are inspired by Zen and transcendental meditation practice.

On Coyote:
"Metal heads will love it as a come down album, and avant-garde and noise aficionados will appreciate the exploration of the outer regions of ambient and use of drones. Joseph can make his guitar sound like a totally alien instrument. His determined pushing of the boundaries opens up a unique sonic palette, enabling him to create textures and chord progressions that sound fresh and adventurous."—Here Comes the Flood
"This is the beauty of Coyote, an eroded sonic world where the environment is gorgeously askew. Raw, tranquil, captivating, Peter Joseph has excellent understanding of concept and technique. This composition is diverse and fluid, time spent listening transports thoughts into a world we seldom visit. Exploding Skull has most exquisitely set everything in high accord."—Lost in a Sea of Sound
"What's interesting is the psychological tension that grows out of the restraint—the artist teases the listener with minimalist guitar chords that do have electricity in them, they swell and oscillate, but only swell to (semi)crescendos a couple of times... Often quiet creatures have loud thoughts. Musically, this 9-song set can be compared to the work of such peripheral American guitar heroes as John Fahey, Loren Connors, and Bill Orcutt."—Recent Music Heroes
